Carrington West are assisting their London based local authority client in the search for a Senior Urban Designer to join their Town planning department on an initial 3 month contract.
Working in a busy Borough Council you will manage urban design input on a range of projects, including reviewing and appraising major and strategic planning proposals. Additionally, the postholder will provide support on the Council's Design Review Panel, working with colleagues in Development Management and Spatial Planning to organise and manage reviews. The role may also include some involvement with the preparation of the Council's Local Plan, so sense checking evidence and providing advice on the Design Chapter as well as Site Allocations of the plan will be critical.
 
On a daily basis you will be required to help organise work for the team, liaise with external third parties including consultancies and project manage your own schemes. As such the role requires an established Urban Designer competent enough to manage a busy workload.
 
At this level an appropriate degree level qualification is expected and ideally you will have professional accreditation and have at least 3-5 years post qualification experience in the private and/or public sector. You will need a strong working knowledge of relevant planning legislation and a good understanding of the pressures faced by local authorities in managing sensitive planning applications.
 
The council are looking for candidates who will be able to hit the ground running and are offering hybrid working arrangements.
