Supporting Eco-Friendly Heating at the Aldingbourne Trust

Five of our consultants spent their volunteering day at the Aldingbourne Trust. Alongside de-nailing pallets so the wood could be reused in future projects, they collected wood for the eco-friendly biomass boilers that heat the whole centre.

Reducing Our Emissions, Year After Year

Following our annual reviews with Positive Planet, we reduced our carbon emissions for a second and then a third consecutive year. We've maintained zero market-based Scope 2 emissions, meaning all the energy we use directly is 100% renewable, despite a growing team and more face-to-face client meetings than ever. Our office at Lakeside North Harbour, with its solar installation of nearly 10,000 panels, plays a big part in helping us meet our goals.

Thames Water Raft Race

Two of our water team joined M Group Water's crew at the Thames Water Raft Race, supplying barrels for the raft. The event raised £35,000 for WaterAid's project in Amboasary Sud, Madagascar, bringing clean water, toilets and better hygiene to the local community.

Charity Football for WaterAid

Our water team hosted a charity 5-a-side tournament at Gravesham Legend Sports, bringing together clients from leading contractors and consultancies across the south. The day raised £1,150 for WaterAid's work bringing clean water and sanitation to communities around the world.

Tree Planting at Lakeside North Harbour

Members of our sustainability team helped launch Lakeside North Harbour's tree-planting initiative, supported by Portsmouth City Council. More than 200 new trees are being planted in the green spaces around our office, providing habitat for wildlife, locking up carbon and improving local air quality.

Carbon Literacy Training

Jazz Hewitt from our sustainability team completed her Carbon Literacy training with Positive Planet. Her knowledge of climate science helps embed climate-conscious decision-making across the business, and shapes how we talk about climate change with our clients and candidates.

2024

Our Net Zero Statement

For Net Zero Week, we published a statement setting out our commitments and the actions behind them. We've pledged to halve our greenhouse gas emissions before 2030 and reach net zero by 2050, in line with the UN's Race to Zero campaign. Our targets include keeping our Scope 2 emissions at zero, cutting Scope 3 emissions by 42% from our 2023 baseline by 2030, and reducing our total emissions by at least 90% by 2050, with any residual emissions neutralised through verified offsetting projects.

2024

Making the SME Climate Commitment

We signed up to the SME Climate Commitment through the SME Climate Hub. In doing so, we joined businesses around the world in pledging to halve our greenhouse gas emissions before 2030 and achieve net zero before 2050, and to report on our progress every year.

World Environment Day

To celebrate World Environment Day, we asked everyone to spend some time doing something to benefit the Earth. Our people ran instead of driving, enjoyed quality time away from their phones, calculated their personal carbon footprints, and planted flowers and vegetables.

Earth Day Poster Competition

For Earth Day, our teams went head to head in a poster-making competition, each raising awareness of a different environmental topic. The winning team had a tree planted in their name in partnership with the National Trust, a small reminder of the part we can all play in building a greener future.

Planting Trees with Every Fruit Basket

We switched our office fruit supplier to Fruitful Office, who plant a fruit tree in Malawi for every basket we order. That's around five new trees every week. Most of the fruit is locally sourced and none of it is air-freighted, which helps cut the carbon footprint of our supply chain while keeping the team fuelled with healthy snacks.

Calling for Action at COP28

Ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP28), we signed the Fossil to Clean letter addressed to world leaders. Co-signed by more than 125 businesses representing almost $1 trillion in revenue, the letter called for urgency in phasing out fossil fuels and scaling up renewable energy.

Supply Chain Sustainability School Gold

We achieved Gold accreditation from the Supply Chain Sustainability School. The award reflects our commitment to learning and improving how we operate sustainably, both as a business and as a supplier to the built environment sector.

Net Zero Week

We marked Net Zero Week by launching Giki across the business. With the help of our sustainability champion, everyone checked their personal carbon footprint and picked out simple changes to reduce it. Our carbon ambassadors also organised a week of office activities, including a vegan and plant-based buffet, a second-hand clothing collection for charity and a round of bingo built around key environmental terms.

World Environment Day Treasure Hunt

For World Environment Day, our teams took part in a #BeatPlasticPollution treasure hunt around Lakeside North Harbour. Each stop revealed a fact about recycling and plastics and their effect on the planet, turning a sunny afternoon into a chance to learn more about the impact of everyday waste.

Building Homes for Local Wildlife

The team built bug hotels and bird feeders from natural and recycled materials. Once decorated, the finished homes went on to shelter local wildlife and support the ecosystems around us, and our winning builders took home plant-based prizes.
