Climate Change Project Officer
 
An opportunity has arisen for a Project Support Officer with experience in Climate Change, CO2 reduction and energy efficiency to join a client in London on contract basis. You will be responsible for assisting delivery of projects across the Climate Change and Sustainability teams as well as taking the responsibility for communications between various stakeholders and internal parties.
 
Duties & Responsibilities:
 
·To work alongside the Council's lead officer on climate change and carbon reduction initiatives, primarily the development, review and monitoring of the Council's Climate Change Strategy and Action Plan.
·To assist in the development and writing of evidence base research and supplementary policy guidance relating to Climate Change / Sustainability policy and projects.
·To provide robust research, evidence and innovative thinking to the team in matters relating to evolving national policy on climate change, renewable energy, carbon reduction technologies and to devise techniques for the local implementation of new policy.
·To lead on research and assist in the development and writing of a Sustainable Design
·To work with the Climate Change Officer to deliver on the Council's climate change projects, particularly on local energy efficiency projects, and to lead on the development of local decentralised energy networks
·To lead on and be the Council's advisor (to Head of Service, Director and Cabinet Members) on establishing ESCOs (Energy Services Company) whilst assisting the Climate Change Officer on budgetary control and capital spending on ESCOs.
·To lead on, and work with, the Climate Change Officer on the development of the Council's energy planning policies to ensure CO2 reduction, renewable energy targets and income from the associated Feed-in-Tariffs are met.
·To ensure that local co2 targets, set out in the Community Plan, Business Service Plan and National Indicators are met by monitoring the Council's progress quarterly and annually according to individual targets.
·To engage with key stakeholders, businesses, community groups and councillors to promote low carbon and climate change initiatives within the borough.
·To assist the Climate Change Officer in providing comments on planning applications and advise developers on climate change policy implementation.
To provide evidence, research and develop business cases for creative and innovative financing proposals, secure external finding including, where possible, venture capital, private finance, s106 contributions, EU, national and regional funding.
