Job description
Are you an Electrical Design Engineer with a solid foundation in building services?
Do you have five or more years of post-graduate experience?
Salary: £45,000 to £50,000+ £5,000 car allowance + 5% matched pension + 25 days’ leave (plus bank)
Location: Warrington (hybrid 2–3 days on site)
You'll be joining a small, dedicated design team with significant plans for expansion. The environment is that of a contractor, meaning you'll be involved from initial design through to site support, providing a satisfying, hands-on experience where you see your work come to life.
As an Intermediate Electrical Design Engineer, you will take ownership of key electrical design packages from day one. Your responsibilities will include working on a variety of schemes, from complex switchgear replacements in sensitive signalling centres to the wholesale renewal of battery systems at major stations like Manchester Piccadilly. You'll also provide the crucial electrical design for mechanically focused projects, ensuring power for pumps, motors, and control systems.
Essential
- 5+ years’ post-graduate experience in electrical design.
- Proficient with cable sizing/calculations using Trimble Pro Design (Amtech) or similar.
- Strong understanding of circuit protective device selection and coordination.
- Confident, clear communicator in client-facing settings.
- Able to work from the Warrington office 2+ days per week (hybrid).
Desirable
- Operating at intermediate level; senior considered for the right experience.
- Experience in the rail sector.
- Background with a design & build contractor.
- Lighting design proficiency (DIALux/Relux).
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.
If you are proficient in performing cable calculations using industry-standard software like Trimble Pro Design and have a deep understanding of sizing circuit protective devices, this could be the perfect next step for your career. This role is for someone who can work independently, take ownership of their work, and communicate design concepts clearly and effectively.
