Job description

Somerset County Council (SCC) are looking for an experienced Ecologist to support Somerset Ecology Service (an SCC traded service) in their delivery of advice to Local Planning Authorities across Somerset.

The ideal candidate will be able to review, assess and comment on planning applications. Planning application consultations are likely to cover all stages of the planning process and include various scales of development - from barn conversions through to large scale housing developments.  Consultation responses will be guided by, and inform to, National and Local Policy and appropriate planning and environmental legislation.
The candidate will be able to undertake Habitat Regulations Assessments and Ecological Impact Assessments, where required, in accordance with the appropriate Regulations.

The successful candidate will understand the Policy and Legislative framework which underpin Local Planning Authority statutory and non-statutory duty. The post holder will be required to maintain accurate records of activities and monitor information, and will be able to work independently on tasks assigned to them.

Somerset County Council staff are currently all remote working, therefore it would be expected that the candidates are also able work remotely. However, sufficient support and guidance will be provided by the Somerset Ecology Services team to enable effective team working and service delivery.
Rate: Up to £46 p/h through an umbrella company or up to £32 PAYE
Location: Remote working except for collecting and returning equipment
Duration: Ongoing and flexible
