Job description

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Bridge Design Manager to lead the technical design of new bridge structures for the UK's strategic road network, working as part of our clients major projects team. As the Bridge Design Manager, you will be responsible for all aspects of highway bridge structures design and will need to have in-depth knowledge of technical design of bridges. You will work closely with design project managers and mentor junior technical staff.
 
This position can offer hybrid working and is based in the Birmingham area.
 
This position falls inside IR35.
 
 
The role
 
·Undertaking services within a highway structures major project environment including: design option appraisals, preliminary and detailed design, preparation of specifications and works information, review and checking of drawings, bar bending schedules and other design deliverables
 
·Managing the delivery of technical outputs of project teams
 
·Acting as Lead Designer on work undertaken by the team where necessary
 
·Contributing to technical excellence and innovation across the team
 
·Ensuring personal utilisation targets are met
 
·Communicate, deliver and implement improvements to SHEQ within all aspects of projects
·Carrying out the checking and approval of design deliverables (including approvals in principal, drawings, specifications, bar bending schedules, design and check certificates, reports and contract documents)
 
·Providing technical excellence in the field of bridge structures design to other members of the structures team, other project team members and clients
 
·Ensuring that delivery is achieved in accordance with the company's management systems including Health and Safety, project and risk management
 
·Developing the talent within the team by coaching and mentoring Engineers, Technicians and Graduates and supporting their technical career development aspirations
 
·Have an in-depth knowledge of highway clients technical approval process and the provisions of the DMRB and MCHW
 
·Have experience collaborating with client, technical approval authorities and stakeholders to resolve technical issues and challenges
 
Qualifications
 
·A degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline
·To be a chartered / incorporated member of a relevant professional institution MICE/MIStructE or equivalent)
·Valid UK driving license
 
Knowledge/experience
 
·Demonstrable broad and in-depth experience in design and Experience construction of highway structures to DMRB, British standards and Eurocodes
·Experience of using relevant analysis software
·Experience of working on design and build contracts (desirable)
·Knowledge and experience of the main management systems & processes used within a similar business


Technical/business skills
 
·Able to lead a design project team and carry out technical compliance checks for project team outputs
·Must be computer literate. Ability to work without supervision essential, you will have the drive and determination to meet targets
·Fluent written and spoken English
