Exciting Opportunity for a Waste Management Supervisor in the East Midlands


An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Waste Management Supervisor to join my client's Environment & Waste team in the East Midlands. This is a key role overseeing the Waste Transfer Station (WTS) and Waste Haulage Operations, ensuring compliance with legislation and operational efficiency.


This position is an excellent opportunity for candidates with supervisory experience in the waste management or similar industries, with a focus on leadership, health and safety compliance, and the management of HGV drivers and waste management operatives.


The main duties of the Waste Management Supervisor are:


·Supervise and manage Waste Transfer Station (WTS) and Waste Haulage Operations, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and budgetary requirements
·Lead and support the team of HGV drivers and waste management operatives, managing recruitment, attendance, disciplinary matters, and training
·Oversee the safe operation of the WTS, ensuring site rules, health and safety protocols, and legal requirements are adhered to
·Act as CoTC (Certificate of Technical Competence) holder for the WTSs and provide cover when needed
·Manage tachograph data, vehicle checks, and compliance with driver hours regulations
·Conduct regular inspections for health & safety, environmental, and quality assurance
·Maintain accurate records, including training, inspections, fuel usage, and performance reviews
·Liaise with contractors and fleet teams to ensure vehicles are maintained and legally compliant
·Provide operational cover when needed, including out-of-hours and on-call duties


The Waste Management Supervisor will have key experience in:


·Supervising staff within the waste management or similar sectors
·Managing HGV drivers and ensuring compliance with driver and vehicle legislation
·Waste carriage, specialist haulage, or waste transfer operations
·Planning logistics or vehicle movements
·Managing on-site assets such as fixed and mobile plant
·Staff training and development, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations


The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and skills:


·HGV Licence (or willing to work towards)
·Driver CPC (or willing to work towards)
·Loading Shovel/Plant Ticket (or willing to work towards)
·GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English (or equivalent)
·BTEC, NVQ3 or equivalent (or willing to work towards)
·WAMITAB CoTC Level 3 (or working towards)
·Knowledge of waste disposal, treatment legislation, and driver/vehicle regulations
·Strong leadership and performance management skills
·Ability to prioritize effectively, maintain accurate records, and work under pressure
·Computer literate, with knowledge of MS Office or equivalent software
·Full, valid driving licence
