Job description

My client is currently seeking a Transport Planning Technician to join their Reading Transport team. This is a great opportunity to join a busy group with a strong forward workload and an established track record. The role would suit a technician with a broad understanding of the transport planning profession but with a focus on transport in producing design outputs to support planning and technical submissions.

The office is just a short walk from Reading Station. They have a large team of Transport Professionals that collaborate with a wide variety of other disciplines to deliver effective solutions to  clients. They can offer a great environment to work in along with flexibility to work between the office and home.

You will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of transport planning projects from small local developments to large strategic ones and to provide support to local authorities. This role will enable you to develop skills and abilities in other areas of land development and public sector work as part of our multi-disciplinary offering.

You will provide concept/preliminary highway design support in respect of core transport engineering / design inputs to support planning and technical submissions. You will play an important role in preparing designs, plans, drawings and influencing the development of transport and access strategies.

You will have a HNC qualification in civil engineering or equivalent and have competency in computer aided design and the use of AutoCAD. You will be a positive and enthusiastic team player who has experience in traffic engineering and/or highway design.

You will have experience of working on a range of projects from feasibility and concept/preliminary stages.  In doing so you should have experience of working alongside other professionals to develop scheme designs to ensure that they are successful from a highways perspective whilst also considering the other multidisciplinary aspects of the design.

You will have an awareness of highway design standards including experience working to both DMRB and Manual for Streets standards in the design of link roads and minor/major junctions and broader public realm and transport movement corridor proposals. Experience and knowledge of how 3D alignments can inform concept/preliminary designs would be advantageous.

Experience using Junctions 10, LinSig and TRANSYT would be beneficial, as would previous experience of Microsoft Excel.
