Control Room Operator


About the Role


An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Duty Controller to join a high-performing operations team within a safety-critical infrastructure environment in London.
This role is pivotal in ensuring the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of a key highway and tunnel network. You will act as the central point of coordination during your shift, monitoring systems, managing incidents, and liaising with emergency services and key stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
Monitoring & Operations
·Oversee the safe, effective, and efficient operation of the network at all times
·Monitor tunnel CCTV systems and highway conditions to identify hazards or debris
·Manage tunnel closure procedures and complete detailed reports following closures
·Develop and maintain strong working knowledge of SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems
·Detect, assess, and verify incidents using PTZ and AME camera systems
·Monitor traffic conditions and report incidents in real time
·Maintain and update the tunnel manning board to track team deployment

Incident Management & Reporting
·Accurately record all incidents, accidents, and near misses using internal systems
·Escalate operational incidents involving subcontractors or teams to senior management
·Liaise with emergency services, Transport for London, and other authorities as required
·Collate and communicate ongoing incident updates, ensuring clear shift handovers
·Maintain operational logs and "book on" records
·Provide timely updates to the Road and Tunnel Manager on all incidents

Administrative & Support Duties
·Carry out general office and reception responsibilities, including handling deliveries and documentation
·Manage petty cash distribution in line with procedures
·Support fire marshal duties where required
·Maintain control and issuance of keys for vehicles, buildings, and fuel
·Keep accurate vehicle allocation records
·Provide administrative support to the Head of Operations & Maintenance as needed

About You
·Experience in a control room, operations, or safety-critical environment
·Strong attention to detail and ability to remain calm under pressure
·Excellent communication and coordination skills
·Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting
·Proficient in using monitoring systems and reporting tools (training provided where required)

Salary & Benefits
·Salary: £32,000 - £35,000 (up to £36,000 depending on experience)
·40-hour working week

Working Hours
This role operates on a structured shift pattern:
·5 days on, 3 days off
·5 days on, 3 days off
·5 days on, 4 days off
Shift times:
·Morning: 5:00am - 1:00pm
·Afternoon: 1:00pm - 9:00pm
·Night: 9:00pm - 5:00am
