Job description

Role Overview
We are recruiting on behalf of our client for a Traffic Orders & Traffic Management Officer to join their team on an ongoing contract based in South London. This role involves leading or supporting the drafting and progression of Traffic Management Orders (TMOs) and associated statutory notices under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. You will provide expert legal interpretation and advice on traffic management orders and traffic calming schemes, supporting the delivery of safe, efficient, and sustainable transport solutions.

Key Responsibilities
·Lead on, or assist with, the drafting, consultation, and implementation of Traffic Management Orders and related statutory notices.
·Provide advice and legal interpretation of legislation and regulations relating to traffic management orders and traffic calming measures.
·Support the delivery of a range of transport and highways initiatives, including:
oTraffic management and road safety programmes
oParking design and enforcement schemes
oCycling infrastructure and innovative active-travel interventions
oSustainable transport strategies
oSchool travel planning and smarter travel initiatives
oRoad safety education and awareness campaigns

Candidate Profile

Essential Requirements:
·A minimum of 3 years' experience drafting and processing Traffic Management Orders and statutory notices under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
·Strong knowledge of traffic management, road safety, parking design, and sustainable transport / active-travel principles.
·Ability to work effectively under pressure, managing competing priorities and meeting tight deadlines both independently and as part of a team.
Desirable:
·Experience or a strong interest in cycling infrastructure, school travel planning, and travel demand management.
·Familiarity with the legal and regulatory framework surrounding traffic management and traffic calming.
·Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and problem-solving skills.
