Job description
Graduate Civil Engineer
Are you a recent Civil Engineering graduate ready to kick-start your career in infrastructure design? This Graduate Civil Engineer opportunity in London will give you hands-on experience in highways and drainage projects from day one, with structured training, real responsibility and clear progression.
As a Graduate Civil Engineer, you will be joining a respected infrastructure consultancy where your development is taken seriously. You will gain exposure to live projects, receive mentoring from experienced engineers and build the technical foundations needed for a successful career in highways and drainage design. Salary is dependent on experience.
This Graduate Civil Engineer position offers the chance to work on a wide variety of residential, commercial and mixed-use development schemes across the UK. You will be part of a collaborative London-based team that specialises in infrastructure, highways and drainage design.
From your first week, you will be involved in real project work rather than observation alone. You will develop practical design skills, understand approval processes and begin working towards professional accreditation.
What you will be doing
As a Graduate Civil Engineer, you will be:
·Assisting in the design of highways and drainage infrastructure schemes from concept through to detailed design.
·Supporting the preparation of Section 38, Section 278 and Section 104 applications.
·Contributing to drainage strategies and sustainable drainage system (SuDS) designs.
·Producing technical drawings and models using Civil 3D and drainage software such as MicroDrainage (full training provided where needed).
·Liaising with colleagues, clients and local authorities under the guidance of senior engineers.
·Attending design meetings and gaining exposure to project coordination.
·Supporting flood risk assessments and technical reports.
·Learning how to manage project deadlines and deliverables effectively.
You will be supported at every stage, with senior engineers providing mentoring and structured feedback to help you grow in confidence and capability.
What you will need
To be successful in this Graduate Civil Engineer role, you will have:
·A degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline.
·A strong interest in highways and drainage design.
·A solid understanding of core civil engineering principles.
·Good communication skills and a willingness to learn.
·An organised approach to managing tasks and deadlines.
·A proactive and enthusiastic attitude towards professional development.
Previous industry experience, internships or placement years are beneficial but not essential.
What you will receive
·Competitive salary dependent on experience.
·Structured training and mentoring programme.
·Support towards professional accreditation (e.g. ICE).
·Exposure to a broad range of infrastructure projects.
·Pension contribution.
·Annual leave allowance.
·Clear career progression path within the infrastructure team.
You will be based in the London office, working alongside experienced highways and drainage engineers in a supportive team environment. Hybrid working options are available following initial onboarding and training.
This Graduate Civil Engineer opportunity is ideal for someone looking to build a long-term career in infrastructure design within a consultancy that values development, technical excellence and collaboration.
