A well-established and respected town planning consultancy based in the heart of Dorset is seeking a Technical Director to join their growing team. Known for delivering strategic, creative, and practical planning solutions, the company serves a wide range of clients across the South of England, with projects ranging from residential and commercial developments to rural and heritage schemes.

The Role
As Technical Director, you will play a key leadership role, guiding the technical delivery of planning projects and ensuring the highest standards of service and compliance are upheld. You'll work closely with planning consultants, clients, local authorities, and external stakeholders to bring clarity and confidence to often complex development challenges.
Responsibilities
·Provide technical oversight across planning applications, appeals, site appraisals, and environmental assessments
·Lead on due diligence, feasibility studies, and risk management for major development projects
·Work collaboratively with directors and senior planners to shape project strategy and client deliverables
·Act as a key point of contact for technical guidance both internally and externally
·Mentor junior team members and support their professional development
·Maintain up-to-date knowledge of planning legislation, environmental policy, and technical innovations
About You
You will bring a deep understanding of the planning and development landscape, coupled with technical insight and strategic thinking. Ideally, you'll have:
·A relevant degree in planning, environmental science, engineering, or a related discipline
·Significant experience in a technical or senior planning consultancy role
·Strong leadership and project management skills
·A proven ability to manage complex planning issues and deliver innovative solutions
·Excellent communication skills, with confidence in presenting technical information clearly
·Chartered MRTPI status
