Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Setting Out Engineer to come and join a busy Highways Maintenance Team in South Yorkshire.
 
Duties and Responsibilities

  •  To undertake the Measurement, Setting Out and Surveying of schemes and projects for internal and external service users using direct and sub-contract resources, ensuring the technical management of schemes and projects is undertaken in a professional and commercial manner.
  • The undertaking of on-site interim and final valuations for schemes and projects across Highways Operations to ensure that schemes are accurately costed and valued and budgets are correctly allocated.
  • To apply and utilise modern up to date surveying techniques and equipment, robotic electronic total station, levelling instrumentation, G.P.S. etc. to ensure the final and correct setting out of schemes in accordance with various design criterion across Highways Operations, including the surveying of projects for internal and external partners.
  • Responsible for the reconciliation of income with valuations for works carried out across the service and ensure projects and schemes are carried out within budget.
  • Develop and implement innovative software applications and technologies with regard to geospatial engineering and operational efficiency improvements to ensure the continuous improvement of working practices and commerciality of the service.
  • Survey and calculation of material stockpiles volumes for the Recycling Centre and support the Senior Contracting Engineer in the day to day running of the Centre to ensure that the volumes of crushing and screening can be contractually agreed with the framework partner.
  • Management and supervision of sub-contractors including liaison and technical support to sub-contractors for design and specification changes.
  • To participate in the Council's standby and call out arrangements for Winter Maintenance and other emergency situations.


Specialist Skills and Knowledge

Essential skills, knowledge and experience required to fulfil the role include, but are not limited to:

  • An appropriate civil engineering HNC or equivalent, plus relevant experience.
  • Evidence of experience and knowledge in programming, supervising and agreeing payments of works with sub-contractors.
  • Evidence of significant experience in highway and drainage maintenance and construction.
  • Extensive experience of the latest modern surveying and setting out techniques
  • Full clean license.
  • Able to carry out a physically demanding role.
  • Detailed and significant knowledge civil engineering construction and maintenance and current Conditions of Contract, Methods of Measurement and Specifications.
