Job description

Due to ongoing year on year growth, our clients, a multi-disciplinary award winning consultancy are looking to add a Senior Traffic Signals Engineer to the growing team in Slough.

The position we are currently looking for is a Senior Traffic Signals Engineer, where the role will have an emphasis on delivering on all aspects of signal design and associated junction / network modelling.

The role specifically requires a detailed knowledge of all aspects of a traffic signal engineering, including traffic signal design, design checking, traffic control system development and operation, FAT/SAT, project delivery and site commissioning, and producing controller specifications.

The suitable candidate will be able to plan, manage and deliver a wide range of traffic signal projects from inception through to completion, including advising and utilising junior team members to aid in the delivery of those projects.

You will also be required to provide clear, accurate information and advice to internal and external clients on all aspects of traffic signal control and technology.


Here is a general outline of the role:
·To manage and implement traffic signal engineering projects and report on a regular basis on programming and financial aspects;
·Ensuring that projects are managed within their respective budgets;
·To review and check highway designs to assess the suitability for traffic signal installations;
·Provide technical direction on projects and high-level advice on complex technical issues;
·To review traffic modelling and advise on suitability of method of operation and extract proposed signal timings.
·To produce traffic signal microprocessor specifications;
·To audit scheme design and controller specifications;
·To prepare reports, drawings, schedules, bills of quantities, costs estimates and other relevant documents in accordance with current industry standards;
·To undertake FAT/SATs in the designer role;
·To ensure technical reports and correspondence take into account current policies and best practice, and are delivered on time;
·Respond to Client and customer requests and enquiries and ensuring that their needs are met.
·To deputise for the Principal Traffic Signal Engineer in their absence.
·Forge working links with professionals in Client partner organisations.

Our ideal candidate will have but not limited to:
·Relevant Degree or equivalent through experience in a relevant engineering discipline;
·Minimum of 5 years experience
·Professional qualification to Chartered / Incorporated level with a professional institution (e.g. MICE or MCIHT) or aiming towards;
·In depth technical knowledge of traffic signal technology, design techniques and equipment;
·Comprehensive understanding of relevant design standards, health and safety, legal frameworks and legislation (including DMRB, TSRGD, NRSWA, Traffic Management Act 2004, Construction (Design and Maintenance) Regulations etc.)
·Specialist knowledge and understanding of traffic signal capacity calculations including relevant software, such as LinSig;
·Detailed understanding of traffic signal engineering techniques including writing controller specifications, FAT/SAT;
·Extensive knowledge of using Microsoft Word, Excel, Project and Outlook;
·Good project management skills
·Excellent written and numeracy skills
·Good communication skills
