Carrington West are assisting their local authority client based in the South of England in their search for an Interim Senior (Principal) Planning Officer to join their Planning Policy team. This will be offered on an initial 6 month contract.
 
We are looking for a versatile town planner with particular experience in planning policy development.  In particular, the following skills and experience are essential:
·Previous experience at a senior or principal officer level in a district, borough or unitary council.
·Preparation of statutory development plans.
·Experience in progressing a local plan through a review process.
·An up to date knowledge of national planning policy, including the implications of recent legislation changes.
·Good written and verbal communication skills.
 
Under the direction of the Assistant Director for Place Development and the team manager, assist with the preparation of the initial stages of an anticipated Local Plan Review, including:
·Assist with drafting and editing the Issues and Scope consultation document.
·Working with the Policy Team and others in the wider Planning service on the research and preparation of background papers, including assisting with the preparation tenders for specialist consultants.
·Input to content for briefings and working group meetings.

·Green & Blue Infrastructure
·Minerals & Waste Planning
·Other Physical Infrastructure and Services
·Regeneration and town/local centres
·Demographic implications
·Neighbourhood Plans
·Housing products to meet different needs, e.g. self-build
 
We are looking for a qualified Town Planner; It would be beneficial to hold a RTPI accredited Planning Degree or equivalent Planning qualification and/or have experience in a similar position. Our client is willing to offer a flexible working situation with hybrid working arrangements.
