Job description
Are you a chartered bridge design engineer?
Looking to step into a key role within a growing rail infrastructure team where you can lead projects and mentor engineers?
Salary: £55,000 to £75,000 (depending on experience and if principal/associate)
Location: Cardiff, 3 days in office per week
I am working with a well-established multidisciplinary engineering consultancy to appoint a Principal or Associate Engineer into their Cardiff-based civils and structures team. With a strong pipeline of rail and infrastructure work secured, this is a key hire to support both technical delivery and team development.
You will join a collaborative office environment, working closely with senior leadership while supporting and developing junior engineers. This role offers a balance of hands-on technical work, leadership and client exposure.
Essential requirements:
- Chartered Engineer (ICE or IStructE) – essential for design sign-off
- Strong background in bridge design (rail preferred, highways also considered)
- Solid experience in structural engineering, particularly steel and concrete
- Experience leading or mentoring engineers
- Ability to undertake and review detailed engineering calculations
- Strong understanding of relevant design standards and best practice
Desirable:
- Rail sector experience
- Temporary works design experience
- CRE experience (or willingness to work towards)
- Experience in multidisciplinary project environments
You will work across a diverse portfolio of projects including bridge design and refurbishment, station upgrades, minor works frameworks, airport infrastructure and temporary works schemes.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing team within a wider business, offering exposure to all aspects of engineering consultancy – from technical delivery through to client interaction and business development.
If you’re looking for a role where you can take ownership, progress your career and be part of a technically strong and supportive team, get in touch to find out more (Emily.atkins@carringtonwest.com)
