Senior Engineer - Highways Maintenance
 
Carrington West are currently helping a leading Highways Maintenance contractor with their search for a Senior Engineer. Reporting to the Construction Team Leader and deputising when required, the role will manage the implementation of a portfolio of programmes of work, ensuring delivery in accordance with policies and strategic aims of the County Council.
 
As the Senior Engineer you will promote a high level of customer service and manage a team to ensure that their programmes of work are delivered according to agreed timescales, and the required quality and legislative requirements.
 
What you will be doing:
 
·Reporting to the Construction Team Leader, you will be responsible for the delivery, either through supply chain or direct labour, of various construction projects for highways, drainage, flooding and a variety of other work streams
·You will be responsible for resolving technical issues as they occur for a range of areas across the project and for the monitoring of progress.
·You will be expected to attend progress meetings, and meet with stakeholders as appropriate during construction to understand and resolve issues arising.
·Required to be mobile and able to attend all site and depot locations within Buckinghamshire
·Providing coaching and mentoring to Junior members of staff
·Provide technical direction for staff dealing with all aspects of the highway service.
·Monitor staff performance to ensure delivery of individual annual objectives and support the career development of staff.
·Manage the delivery of the local programme of works within the team ensuring that it is delivered to budget, to agreed timescales and to the right quality.
·Assist with the preparation of monthly and financial reports
·Liaising with other Teams and Services within Transport for Buckinghamshire to ensure coordinated service delivery.
·You will be expected to attend progress meetings, public exhibitions and public inquiries
·Attend site for site surveys
·Ensure strong budgetary control and financial management is undertaken throughout areas of responsibility.
·Undertake the development and review of policies, plans, procedures and practices as required.

·To carry out any other reasonable duties that may be directed or implied from time to time commensurate to the post and/or organisational requirements.
 
To be successful:
 
·Degree, or equivalent high level qualification and at least 5 years relevant experience
·IEng/CEng and MICE status or equivalent
·A suitable level of site and project management experience is required
·Knowledge and experience of financial management and control of projects.
·Capable of managing a challenging workload subject to change at short notice.
·Ability to prioritise own work to support business priorities
·Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with key people both internally and externally including elected members, stakeholders and members of the public and other design organisations
·Good written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills (including report writing)
·Experience of staff management including performance management.
·Proven design experience of most aspects of major highway schemes.
·Understanding of the NEC contract
·Confident with proven interpersonal and communication skills.  
·Proven knowledge of Construction (Design & Management) Regulations.
·Good IT skills and conversant with Microsoft applications - Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
·Driving licence CSCS, NRSWA and SMSTS card holder preferred.
