Section Engineer, Sewage Treatment Works Upgrade
Location: Harpenden STW, Hertfordshire
Employment: Permanent or long term contract
Salary/Rate: £400 to £450 per day Umbrella.
Start: ASAP
The opportunity
A Tier 1 contractor is delivering a major upgrade at Harpenden Sewage Treatment Works for Thames Water. We are looking for a Section Engineer to own a defined part of the works, coordinating civils and MEICA activities to achieve safe, high quality delivery on programme.
What you will do
- Plan and run your section, short interval planning, lookaheads, permits and access.
- Set out and check civils works, concrete, formwork, rebar, pipelines, chambers and bases.
- Coordinate MEICA installation with civils, including kiosks, MCCs, ducting, cable routes and pipework.
- Produce and brief RAMS, manage QA and ITPs, test records, red lines and as builts.
- Supervise subcontractors, manage daily records, progress, materials and plant.
- Support temporary works coordination, permits to load and install checks.
- Interface with client and designer on RFIs, change, NCRs, snagging and handover packs.
- Support shutdowns and isolations on a live site, including overpumping arrangements.
- Feed accurate progress into the programme and support cost and value reporting.
About you
- Proven experience as a Section Engineer or Senior Engineer on water, wastewater, utilities or heavy civils projects.
- Strong setting out and QA background, comfortable reading P&IDs and single line diagrams.
- Working knowledge of NEC contracts, temporary works, permits and live site controls.
- Good coordination skills across civils and MEICA with a focus on safe delivery and quality.
- Confident communicator who can lead briefings and manage supply chain performance.
Qualifications and tickets
- HNC or degree in Civil Engineering or similar.
- CSCS and SSSTS or SMSTS.
- EUSR National Water Hygiene and SHEA Water, or willingness to obtain quickly.
- Confined Space awareness and CAT and Genny competency are desirable.
- Temporary Works awareness and First Aid are a plus.
