Principal Engineer - Highways

My client provides an incredible range of design and engineering consultancy services to clients who demand exceptional results. My client are looking for a Principal Engineer to join their London based team.
You will be working in the growing UK Highways Sector, you are expected to have a strong track record on highway projects working with contractors and/or end clients on large highway schemes. You will be a Chartered Engineer with experience of managing medium-size projects or managing delivery of design packages on large projects.
You'll lead multi-disciplinary teams of Engineers, Technicians, and external suppliers to deliver high quality output on projects, front our clients and liaise with project stakeholder as required. You'll need to be able to develop and nurture relationships with clients (both internal and external).
Responsibilities & Accountabilities
·Overseeing and actively managing portfolio of projects delivered by enthusiastic and committed multi-disciplinary design team.
·Controlling project budgets and resources to deliver projects on time and to our client's at high quality standards.
·Assisting the Sector Director in business development initiatives, achieving our business plan, and growing our clients base and project portfolio.
·Management of project deliverables, site surveys, construction stage duties, client liaison with members of design / construction teams, costing and ensure progress against the project brief.
·Time, cost, quality, resource and delivery management including communication with the design disciplines / department to ensure that resource and project requirements are clearly understood and met.
·Taking active leading role on the preparation of tenders, tender reviews, fee estimates, scopes of work and change controls.
·Monitoring of project fee spend and deliver commercial objectives including invoicing and Cost Value Report management whilst liaising with contributing design teams and disciplines to ensure project delivery is on track.
·Create and maintain a high performing team environment that enables continual development, feedback and professional growth whilst delivering our projects to our clients.
·Ensure team compliance with company quality management and best practice.
·Management of staff in the production of design deliverables, project management, costing and any other relevant duty required to comply with the project brief.
Skills & Experience
Essential
·Chartered with a professional institution such as ICE or CIHT (or equivalent).
·Significant experience in highways design as well as practical knowledge and experience of highways design standards (Design Manual for Roads and Bridges, DMRB), specifications (Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works, MCHW) and CDM Regulations.
·Strong ability to develop enduring relationships with both internal and external stakeholders that deliver long term benefits.
·Experience of leading and/or contributing to bids, proposals and tender specifications.
·Experienced in digital delivery on highway schemes in BIM environment.
Desirable
·Experienced in leading the design in a design and build environment on road projects including directly interfacing with the contractor at all stages of the process.
·Experienced in managing the delivery of multi-disciplinary projects and teams on Large highway projects.
·Experience in administering NEC contracts, managing contractual notifications and change control.
·Experience working on Smart Streets and Intelligent Transport Systems.
·Experienced in discharging responsibilities under CDM and health and safety regulations.
