Job description

Our market leading client has an urgent requirement for a Lead Ground Investigation Supervisor to oversee a major highway scheme in the north of England.  The ground investigation is expected to take around 5 months in the Penrith region of Cumbria. Working hours will be Monday to Friday (8 hour days). This role falls inside IR35.
 
An experienced Ground Engineer is required to act as the Lead GI Supervisor, based on-site in Cumbria, reporting to the office-based scheme Investigation Supervisor. The Lead GI Supervisor will be expected to provide technical direction and supervision of the planned works as they progress, monitoring, recording the results and assisting the safe and effective delivery of the planned works which are to be completed by a separately appointed specialist GI Contractor. The Lead Supervisor shall be the interface between the GI Contractor and the Investigation Supervisor and shall also act as mentor to our clients site engineers.
 
The Lead Supervisor shall be degree qualified in a relevant earth sciences / civil engineering field, ideally with a related master's degree. Direct experience of appropriate land based intrusive ground investigation supervision is mandatory, with a minimum of 3 years' experience. The candidate shall be fully conversant with the ICE UK Specification for Ground Investigation (2nd Edition), and able to demonstrate working knowledge and use of BS5930 and appropriate standards for soil and rock core logging, Geo-environmental sampling & in-situ testing. The candidate shall be capable of working independently in a supervisory capacity.
 
An appropriate and valid CSCS card and valid full clean driving licence are essential. Additional health & safety accreditations will be required to be met prior to the start of fieldwork for the purposes of attaining a National Highways Passport accreditation (0.5 day on-line course) and separate competence for driving in relation to site vehicle insurance.
