Job description

Are you a Highway Estimator looking for a chance to move into management?  
 
Our client is looking for an experienced Highway Estimator to join their team in Nottinghamshire as a Lead Estimator.
 
The role will involve being the technical lead to a team of estimators in the pricing and target costing of highway and civil engineering projects to internal and external clients.
 
Main accountabilities:
 
·Price tenders, quotations, estimates and target prices from Bill of Quantities or by taking off quantities from drawings for small, medium and large, sometimes complex engineering projects and works using manual calculation and electronic system including spreadsheets, databases and estimating systems.
·Obtain quotes for materials and specialist works from suppliers and sub-contractors, to ensure up to date market prices are being used in quotes.
·Act as main contact for external clients on successful bids for works, to provide a main point of contact.
·Monitor staff performance, coach and act as a mentor developing technical expertise of team members to assist with achieving individual performance targets and future potential.
·Inform Estimating and Planning Manager by email of successful external quotes and set up all codes and ensure the Operations Team have the necessary information to carry out works.
·Maintain job files. To include all emails, drawings/specifications, quotes, invoices, Valesco files and all other relevant details, to enable other team members to have access to information in your absence.
·Attend Early Contractor Involvement meetings, with Designers, Contract Agents and external clients to ascertain what is required in terms of Labour, Plant and Materials.
·Process Project Change Control forms to ensure up to date projected costs are recorded and forwarded to Project Engineers or Clients as appropriate.  Resolve cost discrepancies by collecting and analysing data.
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
 
·An appropriate higher-level qualification in civil engineering and/or proven technical knowledge gained through practical experience in estimating building, highways or civil engineering projects.
·Ability to lead a team, making decisions and solve problems to meet team objectives and operational targets and be able to prioritise available team resources to meet the needs of the business.  
·Strong ICT skills with experience of using applications including Microsoft Word and Excel, and databases
·Proven experience of providing information, communicating and working collaboratively with internal and external customers, stakeholders and colleagues to achieve delivery objectives.
·Commercial experience within the construction industry with proven experience of communication and negotiation skills.
·Full Driving Licence
·Strong analytical and numeracy skills
