Interim Assistant Director of Environment

South London

Full time - 42 hours per week

3-month contract (minimum)

Negotiable rate - Inside IR35
 

Are you an experienced Head of Service, Assistant Director or Director looking for your next challenge?
 
Our client is an ambitious London Borough who are seeking an experienced Assistant Director with a strong background in environmental service areas such as Environmental Enforcement, Waste Management, Street Cleansing, Grounds Maintenance and Parks and Open Spaces.

Key Responsibilities:
 
·Responsible for the planning, development and delivery of waste management, street cleansing, fleet management and related environmental services. This to include the management of a large group of staff providing refuse collection, recycling, gully cleansing, street cleansing and enviro-crime enforcement services.  In addition, you will be responsible for function relating to parks and open spaces, bereavement, and other areas required.  
 
·To be responsible for the strategic development and implementation of services to meet corporate policy and objectives.  
 
·To lead in the procurement of high value contracts covering the treatment and disposal of waste. To act as the Council's client manager for the entire fleet of vehicles used by the Council and its transformation into greener fleet.
 
·To be responsible for the development and implementation of waste management and procurement strategies to ensure compliance with all statutory requirements, provide borough residents with quality and value for money services and maximises income generation opportunities for the Council.
 
·To be responsible for review of waste collection and street cleansing service functions and implementation of the towards zero waste strategy where the key component will be reduction in collections and behaviour change.
 
 
What is required?
 
·Managing performance: Proven ability to manage for results with a proven track record of service delivery in a high-performance environment.
·Leadership and motivation: Ability to lead and motivate diverse groups of staff to achieve high levels of performance with good attendance.
·Problem-solving: Ability to anticipate, analyse situations and identify problem areas along with the capacity and the drive to propose and drive through workable solutions.
