Job description
Carrington West are assisting their local authority client based in Kent in their search for a Head of Development Management within the Town Planning department. This will be offered on an initial 6 month contract, then rolling.
We are looking for an experienced qualified Town Planner and Head of Department who has strong day-to-day experience of Development Management and Management in the public sector, whilst also having extensive experience of having determined planning applications themselves. You will be required to undertake the normal duties for a post of this kind, including advising staff on the determination of planning applications, signing off planning application reports, quality and performance monitoring, staff management etc. You will be an effective leader, with clear vision, strong negotiating skills and the ability to develop good partnership working.
Responsibilities include:
- Leading the Development Management team responsible for determining all applications in the Borough
- The day-to-day management of the team, including Planning Enforcement and Planning Administration
- To ensure high-quality and consistency of decision-making is maintained across the team
It would be beneficial although not mandatory to hold a RTPI accredited Planning Degree or equivalent Planning qualification and/or have considerable experience in a similar position; and also hold a licentiate membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (or equivalent)
