Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Head of Building Control to lead our Building Control department at our London local authority. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and compliance of all construction and development projects within our jurisdiction. As the Head of Building Control, you will be responsible for overseeing a team of dedicated professionals and ensuring all projects adhere to national and local building regulations and standards.
 
Key Responsibilities:
·Provide strategic leadership and direction to the Building Control department.
·Oversee the approval and inspection of building plans and construction projects.
·Ensure all projects comply with national and local building regulations and safety standards.
·Manage a team of building inspectors and administrative staff, offering guidance and support.
·Collaborate with developers, architects, and contractors to ensure building compliance.
·Monitor and evaluate the performance of the department and its staff.
·Handle complex building control issues and disputes, offering expert advice and solutions.
·Stay up-to-date with changes in building regulations and implement necessary adjustments.
·Liaise with other departments and stakeholders to ensure smooth project delivery.
·Prepare reports and present findings to senior management and other key stakeholders.
 
Qualifications and Experience:
·Degree in Building Control, Building Surveying, or a related field.
·Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., RICS, CABE) is highly desirable.
·Extensive experience in building control, including previous management or leadership roles.
·Strong knowledge of national and local building regulations and standards.
·Excellent leadership and people management skills.
·Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
·Effective communication and negotiation skills.
·Proven ability to manage budgets and resources effectively.
·Registered RBI Class 1
