Job description

Carrington West are pleased to offer this outstanding vacancy with one of the most innovative and progressive contractors in the civil engineering / highway engineering market.
 
The role involves managing Contract Agents in the Construction and Maintenance team to ensure that the highway asset is improved and maintained to a standard and external works are delivered to specification, safely and efficiently and all activities are delivered to agreed performances and financial targets.
 
Main accountabilities:
 
·Manage and support Contract Agents and establish project control measures across the team, ensuring works are delivered to agreed specifications, on time, within budget and to a high standard.
·Engage and collaborate with the Health and Safety, Environmental management team, ensuring that health and safety legislation, policy and best practice is fully adhered to, ensuring a safe working environment for colleagues and customers.
·Manage, coach and actively use and share your training and experience, with colleagues and employees under your control, to improve their knowledge, technical skills, potential, performance and value to the company.
·Evaluate and interpret documentation associated with the planning and programming of works to identify and reduce financial risk.
·Provide clear and concise instructions to staff, ensuring resources are in place to deliver agreed works.
·Support the Construction Delivery Manager to drive improvements in the utilisation of resources employed in the delivery of the highway construction and maintenance activities and improve quality standards and reduce costs.
·Create an open and collaborative working environment across the team to ensure that internal works programmes and external projects are developed to maximise efficiency and financial return.
·Ensure completion by others, site records and information, manual and electronic, are maintained before, during and after works; to comply with quality and environmental management systems, codes of practice, legislation and industry best practice.
 
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
·An appropriate higher-level qualification in civil engineering and/or proven technical knowledge gained through practical experience in civil engineering, building or surveying.
·Significant experience in the construction and delivery of civil or highway engineering services and projects.
·Broad knowledge and experience of health, safety and environmental regulations and codes of practice relating to civil / highway engineering and construction and able to write and communicate site specific Risk Assessments and Method Statements.
·Detailed knowledge and experience in the operation and use of vehicles, plant, and materials employed in the delivery of civil / highway engineering, construction and maintenance activity.
·Experience of cost control and financial management across projects and works worth £million+, including the detailed management and recording of income and expenditure.
·Hold Industry recognised qualifications; New Roads and Street Works Act, Site Supervisors Safety Training Scheme, Temporary Works Co-ordinator Certificate.
·Good people management skills, with the ability to coach, develop and mentor.
·Strong ICT skills with experience of using applications including Microsoft Word and Excel, email and the internet.
·Full current driving licence
