Role: CDM Advisor       
Location: Derby      
Salary: Up to £45,000 p/a plus package
 
My client, who are a tier 1 contractor on the Seven Trent framework are looking to strengthen their health and safety team with a CDM Advisor. To ensure full compliance with relevant health and safety legislation associated with the delivery of capital works, specifically the requirements of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations.

The role:


Periodically review and revise CDM processes and procedures with subject matter experts and SHEA Systems Manager.
Periodic consultation and collaborative working with client CDM Practitioners.
Deliver the highest standards of health and safety advice to all stakeholders within a multi disciplinary engineering environment.

Key accountabilities:


·Ensure that the Principal Designer is compliant with the duties under the CDM regulations
·Actively promote and achieve H&S objectives.
·Report on CDM procedure compliance to the Business Unit Health and Safety Manager.
·Review design assumptions and design risk assessments, including those of subcontract designers where required, to ensure hazards have been eliminated or reduced to as low as is reasonably practicable.
·Offer alternative solutions where necessary to ensure H&S and to reduce whole life cost.
·Ensure designs comply with safe to operate requirements to ensure the safety and well being of operational and maintenance staff and to reduce rework costs.
·Work with designers to ensure they apply the principles of prevention.
·Ensure project teams co-ordinate H&S aspects of the design and designers co-operate with others involved in the project.
·Review pre-construction documents and information to ensure all H&S aspects and risks have been addressed.
·Review health & safety file documents and information to ensure all H&S aspects and risks have been addressed.
·Where required  provide expert H&S advice on the content, interpretation and application of H&S policies, procedures, legislation and guidance.
·Ensure relevant health and safety legislation is complied with on capital projects as necessary.
·Actively promote and achieve H&S objectives.
·Provide expert H&S advice on the content, interpretation and application of H&S policies, procedures, legislation and guidance
·Report on CDM procedure compliance to the Business Unit Health and Safety Manager.
·Carry out site visits and audits to ensure compliance with CDM regs.
·Where required provide expert H&S advice on the content, interpretation and application of H&S policies, procedures, legislation and guidance.
 
Qualifications and experience:
 
·A qualification in engineering or health and safety
·NEBOSH Construction Certificate
·Experience of working in a multi discipline design team and of the application of H&S principals in design
·A good understanding of the operational and maintenance requirements of water industry assets 
·An understanding of construction processes and procedures
·Membership of an appropriate engineering or health and safety institution
