Area Officer - Highways

Carrington West are currently helping an East London Council with their search for an Area Officer. This role will ensure the robust management and maintenance of all highways, traffic and parking assets.  Ensuring they are safe and to take appropriate enforcement action in respect of relevant legislation.  

As the Highways Area Officer, you will have a good level of highways maintenance, highway enforcement, health and safety legislation, and customer care experience to effectively deliver the functions within this role, excellent communication skills and experience are expected.

Job Context:

·The post holder reports to a Senior Engineer
·The post holder has no financial or resource responsibility
·To deliver reactive maintenance repairs highlighted by the highways safety inspections.
·The post holder will be remote working for the majority of the day, but will be able to access the Councils network by the provision of appropriate IT solutions.
·The post holder will occasionally be required to work outside 'normal' office hours, and as required by the line manager to 36 hours per week.
·The post holder has indirect responsibility contractors engaged in highways maintenance work.
 
This position will require frequent site visits during varying weather conditions and timescales, a driving licence is therefore desirable, along with access to one's own vehicle or alternative transport arrangements to ensure efficiency.
 
This position also involves remote working for the majority of the time, but access will be available to the Councils network by the provision of appropriate IT solutions.
 
What you need to be successful:

·NRSW Act supervisor qualification or equivalent.
·Approved training or equivalent experience in highway inspection and/or maintenance.
·Relevant qualification in CDM or equivalent.
·Approved training in Health & Safety in relation to highways works.
·Approved training of the Highways Act 1980, Traffic Management Act 2004, New Roads & Street Works Act, EPA Act, Cleaner Neighbourhoods Act, London Local Authorities Act, GDPR and Road Safety Audits.
