Job description
Transport Planner
I'm working with a respected and forward-thinking consultancy who are looking to bring a Transport Planner into their growing Birmingham team. It's an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to take the next step in their career, gain exposure to diverse development projects, and work alongside an experienced and supportive group of professionals who value collaboration and progression.
As a Transport Planner, you'll play a key role in delivering high-quality transport and development planning advice for clients across residential, commercial, and mixed-use schemes throughout the UK. You'll be trusted to take ownership of your projects, supported by senior planners who will help you develop both technically and professionally.
Key Responsibilities
·Prepare Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, Transport Statements, and technical reports for planning applications.
·Undertake site appraisals, access reviews, and junction assessments to inform development feasibility.
·Analyse traffic data, trip generation, and mode share forecasts using tools such as TRICS, TEMPRO, and GIS.
·Contribute to masterplanning and layout design, advising on access, parking, and sustainable transport provision.
·Liaise with local authorities, highway officers, and key stakeholders to support planning submissions.
·Support in the preparation of S106 and S278 documentation, as well as condition discharge applications.
·Assist with client meetings, tenders, and proposal writing as part of wider business development.
·Provide guidance to junior team members and contribute to a collaborative team culture.
What We're Looking For
·Degree in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography, or a related discipline.
·Experience in transport planning or development planning consultancy.
·Strong technical and analytical skills with experience using TRICS, TEMPRO, and MS Office (ArcGIS or AutoCAD advantageous).
·Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence in producing clear and concise technical reports.
·Good understanding of UK planning policy, design standards (DMRB, MfS, LTN 1/20), and sustainable transport principles.
·Self-motivated, organised, and comfortable managing multiple deadlines.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Transport Planner looking for variety, autonomy, and long-term career progression. You'll join a consultancy that's big enough to work on major national projects but small enough for your voice to be heard and your ideas valued.
For the right Transport Planner, there's a clear development path, support toward chartership, and the chance to work on some genuinely interesting and high-impact projects across the UK.
