Are you an experienced contract manager with a passion for environmental services?

Do you thrive on managing complex, multi-million-pound contracts that have a visible impact on local communities?

Wiltshire Council is looking for a Waste Management Contract & Compliance Lead to oversee the delivery of our waste treatment and disposal functions across the county. This high-profile role involves managing large-scale waste and recycling contracts, ensuring environmental compliance, and supporting the council's strategic aims under the Environment Act 2021.

Reporting to the Head of Waste Operations, you'll be a key member of the service leadership team. You'll lead a team of specialists, manage key contracts worth over £25m annually, and play a key role in transforming how waste services are delivered - ensuring service continuity, value for money, and sustainability.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage waste treatment and disposal contracts, including MRF, landfill, composting, and household recycling centres.
  • Ensure all services meet legal, environmental, and performance standards.
  • Provide expert advice on waste legislation and policy development.
  • Monitor contract performance, resolve complex operational issues, and drive service improvements.
  • Deputise for the Head of Waste Operations when required.

What you'll need:

  • Degree or significant experience in commissioning, contract, or environmental management.
  • Proven success managing large-scale, high-value service contracts.
  • Strong budgeting, analytical, and leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of waste permitting, pollution control, and health & safety in waste operations.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management abilities.
