Traffic Order Writer

About the Role
On behalf of our client in Surrey, we are seeking an experienced Traffic Orders & Traffic Management Officer to join their highways and transport team on an ongoing contract. The post will involve leading and supporting the preparation, consultation, and implementation of Traffic Management Orders (TMOs) and statutory notices in accordance with the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The successful candidate will provide specialist advice on the legal and regulatory aspects of traffic management and traffic calming, contributing to safer and more sustainable transport networks.

Key Duties
·Prepare, review, and process Traffic Management Orders and associated statutory notices.
·Provide expert interpretation of legislation relating to traffic orders, traffic regulation, and traffic calming measures.
·Support the development and delivery of a wide range of transport and highways initiatives, including:
oTraffic management and road safety schemes
oParking layout design and enforcement arrangements
oCycling schemes and active-travel projects
oSustainable and low-carbon transport strategies
oSchool travel planning and smarter travel programmes
oRoad safety education and promotional campaigns

About You

Essential:
·At least 3 years' experience drafting and processing Traffic Management Orders and statutory notices under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
·Sound knowledge of traffic management, road safety, parking design, and sustainable / active-travel principles.
·Ability to manage a demanding workload, work to tight deadlines, and operate effectively both independently and within a team environment.
Desirable:
·Experience or interest in cycling infrastructure, school travel planning, and travel demand management.
·Understanding of the legal and regulatory framework underpinning traffic management and traffic calming.
·Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders and resolve issues pragmatically.
