Senior Highway Engineer - Roundabouts & Active Travel Design

Hybrid Working - 2 days in Birmingham
Contract - 6 Months (Potential Extension)
£45 - £50 per hour (Inside IR35)
37.5 Hours per Week
 
We are currently supporting a market-leading organisation in the highways sector that is looking to appoint a Senior Highway Engineer with strong experience in roundabout and active travel design to join their design team on a contract basis.
This role will see you playing a key part in the design and development of highway infrastructure, contributing specialist expertise to projects that improve network efficiency, safety, and sustainable travel options.
 
The Role
Working as part of a wider multidisciplinary team, you will take the lead on highway design elements, particularly around roundabout schemes and active travel infrastructure, ensuring designs meet current standards and best practice.
You will collaborate closely with engineers, designers, and project stakeholders while helping deliver high-quality technical solutions across a range of projects.
 
Key Responsibilities
·Lead the design of highway schemes, with a focus on roundabouts and active travel infrastructure
·Ensure designs comply with DMRB standards and relevant UK design guidance
·Produce and review technical drawings, reports, and design documentation
·Work collaboratively with internal teams and project stakeholders
·Support the delivery of projects from concept through to detailed design
·Contribute technical expertise within a multidisciplinary project environment

Requirements
·Proven experience as a Senior Highway Engineer
·Strong experience in roundabout design and active travel schemes
·Detailed knowledge of DMRB standards
·Experience working within highway design teams or consultancy environments
·Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
·Ability to work both independently and as part of a wider project team
