Highway Engineer (Traffic/Active travel)

The Roads team have a vacancy for an Engineer in our Bristol office. The large multi-discipline office is situated just a few minutes' walk from Temple Meads Station and the vibrant city centre which boasts a fantastic range of shopping and eating and drinking establishments.
The team in Bristol provides concept, preliminary and detailed design and network modelling on a wide range of projects for local authorities and the private sector as well as supporting other company business lines where their projects have a specialised traffic and highways interface. You will be joining an established team that will be involved in the winning and delivery of projects and services to a range of both local and national clients including:
·Local Authority Clients in the Southwest Region including WECA, Bristol, Bath & North East Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Cardiff County Council and Cornwall Council
·Midlands Highways Alliance
·Wessex Water
 
You will have some experience of working as part of project teams developing feasibility, preliminary and detailed design for traffic engineering, active travel, bus priority and urban realm schemes. The role would suit a self-motivated individual looking to advance their career in a dynamic team. We would consider the role on either a full or part-time basis and are happy to look at a range of different working patterns.
Key Responsibilities:
·Undertake design duties in the preparation of preliminary & detailed design and project delivery of traffic engineering, local transport, urban design/streetscape and local authority/municipal highway schemes;
·Produce technical design information including drawings, reports and specifications;
·Ensure the technical content and quality of all outputs are in line with the project brief, design regulations and standards;
·Collaborate with the wider project team and other engineering disciplines;
·Assisting in work delegation and co-ordination to graduates and technicians;
·Produce deliverables to a high standard of quality against agreed timescales and within budget;
·Undertake Health & Safety duties including ensuring a safe and healthy working environment for team members and fulfilling all responsibilities for safety, health, and the environment in the design;
·Regularly communicate to the Principal Engineer/ Project Manager on project progress.
 
Minimum Requirements:
·Demonstrate experience and knowledge of developing scoping, preliminary and detailed design to traffic/local roads problems which include Alignment, Drainage, Pavement, Road Restraint System, Road Signs & Markings.
·Knowledge and experience in the following aspects: cycling design, traffic calming, drainage, junction design, and footway and carriageway improvement design;
·Knowledge of local and national design standards including, but not limited to; TSRGD, Manual for Streets, DMRB, Streetscape guidance and Traffic Signs Manual;
·Ability to demonstrate understanding and application of relevant design standards and regulations.
·Understanding of Health and Safety requirements including CDM responsibilities
·Excellent technical and communication skills and ability to work well within a team
·Knowledge of AutoCAD and MS Office applications.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
·B.Sc., BEng or MEng degree in Civil Engineering, or relevant Engineering discipline.
