We're looking for a motivated and compassionate Temporary Accommodation Officer to join a busy and committed South London local authority. This is a vital role where you'll help individuals and families move from temporary accommodation into sustainable long-term housing, making a direct impact on lives across the borough.
The Role:
You'll manage a caseload of households ready to move on, assessing their needs, identifying suitable housing options, and supporting them to take the necessary steps to successfully settle into their new home. Working closely with Lettings Negotiators and a range of internal and external partners, you'll ensure accommodation is used efficiently and that clients are fully supported throughout their housing journey.
Key Responsibilities:
·Match households with appropriate (legally defined) settled accommodation
·Provide tailored housing advice and prepare households for tenancy
·Update housing needs assessments and case records
·Liaise with other council teams, social care, and support services
·Issue discharge notices and manage tenancy-related communications
·Undertake home/property visits as required
·Promote independence, community integration, and tenancy sustainability
You'll bring:
·Solid understanding of housing and homelessness legislation
·Experience working with vulnerable households in a housing or homelessness setting
·A good grasp of the barriers people face when moving on from temporary accommodation
·Strong organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills
·A proactive and person-centred approach
