Job description
We are looking for an experienced Freelance Site Agent to support the delivery of a major highways project in Devon. This role is ideal for an established contractor with a strong civil engineering background and demonstrable experience on medium-to-large scale highways schemes.
The successful candidate will take responsibility for the planning and coordination of service diversions alongside the management and delivery of earthworks. Close collaboration with the client, statutory undertakers, and sub-contractors is essential, ensuring works progress safely, efficiently, and to programme.
Key Responsibilities
·Day-to-day management and oversight of site activities on a £10-15m highways scheme.
·Plan and coordinate service diversions with statutory authorities and delivery partners.
·Manage and programme earthworks in line with design requirements and health & safety standards.
·Liaise proactively with the client team, designers, and sub-contractors to maintain smooth communication and progress.
·Lead on the preparation of site documentation, including RAMS and progress reports.
·Monitor site progress against programme, identifying risks and implementing corrective actions.
·Maintain high standards of safety, quality, and environmental compliance.
Requirements
·Proven experience operating as a Site Agent (or Senior Engineer stepping up) on highways or heavy civil engineering projects.
·Strong engineering background - degree or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering preferred.
·Hands-on experience with service diversions and earthworks is essential.
·Excellent coordination skills with the ability to drive programme and manage multiple interfaces.
·Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
·Ability to operate effectively as a freelance professional with minimal supervision.
·Full UK driving licence and right to work in the UK.
