Job description

Senior Transport Planner
I'm working with a progressive and well-regarded transport planning consultancy who are looking to appoint a Senior Transport Planner to strengthen their Birmingham team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who wants to take a leading role on complex and high-profile projects, mentor junior colleagues, and help shape the direction of a growing regional office.
As a Senior Transport Planner, you'll be given the autonomy to manage your own workload and projects, working closely with clients across the development, infrastructure, and public sectors. You'll play a pivotal role in delivering transport assessments, travel plans, and access strategies that inform and shape planning applications across the UK. The role is ideal for someone who enjoys combining technical detail with big-picture thinking.
Key Responsibilities
·Lead the preparation of Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, and Travel Plans for a wide range of developments.
·Undertake accessibility studies, junction capacity assessments, and transport modelling using tools such as TRICS, TEMPRO, and Junctions 10/PICADY.
·Oversee the work of junior team members, providing guidance, technical review, and mentoring.
·Liaise directly with clients, design teams, and local authorities to negotiate and resolve transport planning issues.
·Contribute to masterplanning and layout design, advising on access, parking, servicing, and sustainable transport integration.
·Support and lead elements of business development - preparing fee proposals, attending meetings, and building client relationships.
·Ensure technical quality, consistency, and compliance across project deliverables.
·Manage project budgets, deadlines, and client expectations effectively.
What We're Looking For
·Degree in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography, or related discipline.
·Experience in transport planning, ideally within a development planning or consultancy environment.
·Strong technical understanding of transport planning principles, data analysis, and UK planning policy.
·Proficient in TRICS, TEMPRO, Junctions 10/PICADY, and MS Office (experience with GIS or AutoCAD desirable).
·Confident communicator, able to lead meetings and present technical information clearly to non-technical audiences.
·Experience managing projects, client relationships, and mentoring junior staff.
·Working toward, or already holding, professional accreditation (MCIHT, TPP, or similar).
This is an exciting role for a Senior Transport Planner who wants to take on more responsibility and grow with a consultancy that values technical excellence and personal development. You'll work alongside a friendly and experienced team that encourages collaboration, innovation, and career progression.
For the right Senior Transport Planner, there's a clear pathway toward Associate level, a competitive salary, hybrid working, and the opportunity to work on a broad range of transport and development projects that genuinely make a difference.
