Carrington West are assisting their local authority client based in London in their search for a Senior Town Planner to join their Development Management team on a rolling 6 month contract.

The role will primarily involve managing a caseload of mixed medium scale and complex minor applications. This is to initially help the council with their backlog before then supporting them with new applications.

Role Purpose

• Support the effective renewal and regeneration of the Council
• The negotiation and case management of complex planning applications, delivering significant levels of investment within the Borough
• The processing of planning appeals
• The provision of specialist planning advice
• Day to day management of pre-application processes or similar function within the area team
• Determination of appropriate planning applications under the Scheme of Delegation

Main Duties / Accountabilities
1.Prepare professional reports and formulate recommendations on complex planning and related proposals for decision to the Planning Committee or by delegated authority.
2.Determination of certain categories of planning application in accordance with the Council Scheme of delegation.
3.Carrying out site visits to check existing features on and adjoining the site and the impact of the proposed development.
4.Liaison with other Sections of the Division and other Council Departments and Government Departments.
5.Liaison with the Planning Enforcement Team in cases of contraventions of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990, the Planning Act 2008 and related legislation.
6.Dealing with general enquiries from elected Members, prospective developers and members of the public, on all development control and related matters in person or in writing.
7.Such other duties which may be required, reasonably, from time to time.

The successful candidate should hold a RTPI accredited Planning Degree or equivalent Planning qualification and considerable experience in a similar position; and also hold a licentiate membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (or equivalent)
