Job description

Carrington West's dedicated Town and Country Planning Recruitment Team operate UK wide and we are delighted to be assisting our client with their search for a Senior Development Management Officer to join a Local Authority client of ours in the South West of England on an initial 3 month contract.
 
The purpose of the role is to act under delegated powers, to be responsible for the processing of applications,  appeals, enforcement and pre-application enquiries within the District - Large proportion of the cases being Complex Minor applications.
 
Main Duties:
·To process planning applications and pre-application enquiries in negotiation with applicants, professional agents and consultees.
·To determine planning applications acting under delegated powers and to sign decision notices.
·To be responsible for dealing with planning appeals.
·To provide corporate advice on major regeneration initiatives to internal and external stakeholders.  
·To present applications to meetings of the Council's Planning Committee to present recommendation and reasons for decisions and to advise on points of planning policy and answer questions raised by members.  To liaise with District Councillors throughout the determination of planning applications, appeals and enforcement cases.
·To liaise with applicants, agents, parish councils and consultees throughout the determination of planning applications, appeals and enforcement cases.
·To respond to enquiries from the public and other stakeholders in accordance with service standards.
·To assist in the appraisal, mentoring, coaching and professional development of Planning Officers in the performance of their duties.
 
Expertise: 
The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years experience in all aspects of Development Management, proven experience in processing complex/major planning applications, relevant experience in dealing with planning appeals & enforcement and evidence of successful negotiation skills with applicants, professional agents & consultees.
 
Due to the nature of the role the successful candidate will need to have the ability to drive and have access to a car; and also hold a degree in Town and Country Planning or relevant subject and be a corporate Member of the RTPI or in the final year of working towards eligibility for Licentiate Membership.
