Job description

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
 
▪ Chartered (or near Chartered) Civil Engineer, with relevant post graduate geotechnical / engineering geology qualification(s) ➢ Exceptions can be made for candidates with geological degrees that have an MSc/PhD in soil mechanics/geotechnical engineering and demonstrate sound numerical geotechnical experience.
▪ Substantial experience in major international assignments in various construction markets
▪ "Hands on" geotechnical design engineer with experience managing projects, budgets and resources
 
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
▪ Lead and undertake assignments in the UK and overseas, supporting the delivery of high quality outputs
▪ "Hands on" geotechnical design engineer capable to work fully independently and as part of a team
▪ Act as assignment manager, producing and overseeing technical delivery, commercial aspects, financial controls (forecasting & budgeting), planning, resourcing and troubleshooting
▪ Assist and support a high level of technical capability within the skill area as may be required to deliver the service offerings targeted
▪ Assist with the organisation and management of the technical staff, acting as a line manager as required, mentoring fellow engineers, supporting staff recruitment, training, CPD and implementation of 'Best Practice' and procedures
▪ Assist Graduates through the processes and requirements for completion of their Chartership
▪ Assist in providing appropriate resources for the successful delivery of assignments in the UK and overseas, maximising fee income
▪ Assist Market Sector Leader to source and develop business opportunities, producing tenders, and building client relationships in the UK and overseas
▪ Adopt procedures for standardisation of work products and deliverables, and peer review to ensure consistency and excellence in service delivery of the Company's technical work product
▪ Implement and adhere to Company procedures in the management, delivery and administration of Services
▪ Maintain strong relationships with other disciplines within the firm and promote cross functional working
▪ Embrace organisational change and influence others to modify behaviour and attitudes as required
▪ Observe and maintain Company Health and Safety Policy across all activities
▪ Undertake other reasonable duties as requested
 
KEY EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
▪ Chartered (or near Chartered) in a relevant discipline (ideally ICE)
▪ Civil engineering degree with a post graduate qualification in a geotechnically or engineering geology related subject from an accredited college or university. Ideally a Chartered engineer
▪ Demonstrable international and site experience, predominantly in large scale (c.£100m+) infrastructure projects, for a range of Clients in various construction market sectors
▪ Capable "hands on" geotechnical designer. Detailed design experience including deep and shallow foundations (vertical and lateral capacity, settlement), deep excavations, basements, retaining structures, earthworks, soil and rock slope engineering, ground improvement, seismicity and liquefaction and instrumentation and monitoring
▪ Strong knowledge of geotechnical and engineering geological processes and design, with a particular emphasis on data interpretation, design & analysis, construction and advanced numerical modelling
▪ Ground investigation experience including design, preparation of tender documents, supervision, interpretation
▪ Geomorphologic, coastal and maritime experience would be beneficial
▪ Extensive knowledge of Eurocodes and other relevant national and international industry standards, contracts, methodologies and procedures
▪ Experience at Assignment Manager and Designer level with a proven record of managing and delivering assignments to programme and budget
▪ Understanding of the standard basic engineering work planning, scheduling and cost estimating
▪ Ability to build, maintain and develop relationships with key clients
▪ People management experience e.g. general employee welfare, carrying out appraisals, training and development, involvement in resourcing and recruitment activities
 
IT SKILLS
▪ Competent user of 2D and 3D finite element analysis software (e.g. PLAXIS, Z-soil)
▪ Proficient in other geotechnical software (Repute, Settle, WALLAP, LPile, GPile, DPile, Slide, gINT, or equivalent)
▪ Excellent Microsoft Office Abilities (particularly Excel, C+++)
▪ 2-D and 3-D computer aided design and computer aided engineering (CAD and CAE) tools
