Job description
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Senior Environmental Health Officer to join a South London local authority's Private Sector Housing Team. You will work alongside a group of dedicated officers committed to improving housing standards and protecting the health, safety and wellbeing of residents across the borough.
In this senior role, you will supervise and develop a team of up to six officers and assistants, providing guidance, support and technical expertise. You will lead on complex casework, including inspections of private rented homes and HMOs, identifying hazards, and ensuring landlords meet their statutory obligations. You will also take robust enforcement action - such as civil penalties and prosecutions-against non-compliant landlords and agents.
The role includes overseeing mandatory and discretionary licensing schemes and acting as the lead officer in a specialist area such as fire safety, HMOs, licensing, tall buildings, pest control or energy efficiency. You will contribute to proactive projects, investigations, and wider corporate initiatives, helping to drive up standards and improve the renting experience across the borough.
This is a hybrid role, with a minimum of three office/inspection days per week once trust is established. Applicants who can drive and provide their own vehicle for site visits are strongly preferred.
