Our client has a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Engineer to join their Construction team as a Senior Engineer.
The role will involve construction of highway schemes to include (but not limited to) Public Realm improvements, carriageway and footway repairs and reconstruction, drainage, vehicle restraint systems, temporary works, traffic management, road markings and signs, minor and major improvement works. Reporting to the Construction Team Leader and deputising when required, the role will manage the implementation of a portfolio of programmes of work, ensuring delivery in accordance with policies and strategic aims. The successful candidate will promote a high level of customer service and manage a team to ensure that their programmes of work are delivered according to agreed timescales, and the required quality and legislative requirements.
- Reporting to the Construction Team Leader, you will be responsible for the delivery, either through supply chain or direct labour, of various construction projects for highways, drainage, flooding and a variety of other work streams
- You will be responsible for resolving technical issues as they occur for a range of areas across the project and for the monitoring of progress.
- You will be expected to attend progress meetings and meet with stakeholders as appropriate during construction to understand and resolve issues arising.
- Required to be mobile and able to attend all site and depot locations within Buckinghamshire
- Providing coaching and mentoring to Junior members of staff
- Provide technical direction for staff dealing with all aspects of the highway service.
- Monitor staff performance to ensure delivery of individual annual objectives and support the career development of staff.
- Manage the delivery of the local programme of works within the team ensuring that it is delivered to budget, to agreed timescales and to the right quality.
- Assist with the preparation of monthly and financial reports
- Liaising with other Teams and Services within the contract to ensure coordinated service delivery.
- You will be expected to attend progress meetings, public exhibitions, and public inquiries
- Attend site for site surveys
- Ensure strong budgetary control and financial management is undertaken throughout areas of responsibility.
- Undertake the development and review of policies, plans, procedures, and practices as required.
- Prepare drawings, reports and calculations for projects
- Meeting agreed deadlines
- Working as an integral member of a design delivery team

- Degree, or equivalent high level qualification
- A suitable level of site and project management experience is required
- Knowledge and experience of financial management and control of projects.
- Capable of managing a challenging workload subject to change at short notice.
- Ability to prioritise own work to support business priorities
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with key people both internally and externally including elected members, stakeholders and members of the public and other design organisations
- Good written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills (including report writing)
- Experience of staff management including performance management.
- Proven design experience of most aspects of major highway schemes.
- Understanding of the NEC contract
- Confident with proven interpersonal and communication skills.
- Extensive knowledge of design procedures, guidance and standards and good practice documents including the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB), Specification for Highway (SHW), Manual for Streets (MfS), Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions (TSRGD) and Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs).
- Proven knowledge of Construction (Design & Management) Regulations.
- Good IT skills and conversant with Microsoft applications - Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
- Good AutoCAD knowledge and experience,
- Desirable experience with MX/3D Cad, and/or drainage design capabilities (WINDES or equivalent)
- Driving licence
- CSCS, NRSWA and SMSTS card holder preferred.
