Carrington West are assisting their local authority client based in Cumbria in their search for a Senior Planning Enforcement Officer. This will be offered on an initial 6-month contract, then rolling.

The successful candidate will work as part of a team to provide a highly effective, high quality and efficient Planning Enforcement service which investigates breaches of planning control, taking swift and decisive action where it is expedient to do so.

• You will play a fundamental role in serving a variety of enforcement notices, drafting witness statements for inquiries, conducting site visits, and negotiating for retrospective planning permission.
• You will be responsible for investigating and managing a caseload of planning enforcement cases, from small-scale breaches to large/complex cases which may require you to represent at planning appeals.
• Your typical caseload will include dealing with unauthorised developments, changes of use and modifications to listed buildings and you will be responsible for investigation through to resolution.
• On occasion, you will be required to prepare evidence for prosecutions in conjunction with issuing a variety of notices when required such as Breach of Condition, Stop and Enforcement.
• Further duties also encompass reviewing existing cases and negotiating retrospective planning approval where applicable.

The successful candidate will have proven enforcement experience within a UK local authority; will have excellent communication skills and should feel comfortable in working on a high-volume case load.
