Job description
Senior Bridge Engineer
I'm working with a well-established consultancy that is currently looking to strengthen its Structural Engineering division with the appointment of a Senior Bridge Engineer. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced professional to join a growing team involved in high-profile infrastructure and development projects across the UK.
This role is best suited for a chartered engineer or someone working toward chartership, with a strong technical background and a proven track record in the design and delivery of bridge and associated highway structures. The successful candidate will play a key role in both technical delivery and leadership, supporting junior team members and ensuring high standards across all project stages.
Key Responsibilities:
·Lead and support the design of bridge structures in line with UK codes and standards.
·Conduct structural analysis and detailed design using industry-standard software.
·Prepare specifications, technical reports, calculations, and risk assessments compliant with Eurocodes and DMRB.
·Apply in-depth knowledge of industry best practices and quality assurance procedures to develop innovative, cost-effective solutions.
·Undertake and manage Category checks in accordance with DMRB requirements.
·Oversee the work of engineers and technicians to ensure quality and timely delivery of drawings and design packages.
·Support inspections and assessments of existing bridge assets where required.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
·Chartered or working toward chartership with ICE or IStructE.
·5-10+ years of relevant experience in a UK consultancy environment, particularly in highway and/or rail bridge projects.
·Strong understanding of bridge loading requirements and design standards.
·Proficient in the use of analysis and design software tools.
·Self-motivated and collaborative, with excellent problem-solving skills.
·Comfortable working both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team to meet project deadlines and client expectations.
·Experience in bridge inspections would be an advantage.
This is a key role within a collaborative and supportive team environment, offering clear opportunities for professional development and career progression. If you're a senior-level bridge engineer looking to take the next step in your career with a dynamic and forward-thinking consultancy, I'd welcome the chance to discuss this role with you in more detail.
