Job description

Senior Bridges Engineer
Are you ready to take ownership of high-profile bridge and structures schemes and see your designs shape Scotland's transport network? As a Senior Bridges Engineer, you will lead technically challenging projects, mentor talented engineers and play a key role in delivering sustainable infrastructure that enhances communities and protects the future.
My client is a leading provider of full life-cycle engineering, operations and decarbonisation solutions across transport infrastructure and complex facilities. You will be joining a well-established consulting division delivering long-term trunk road network management contracts across Scotland, alongside a diverse portfolio of major roads, bridges and civil engineering projects for Transport Scotland, local authorities and established contractors.
With design hubs in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Motherwell, Perth and Aberdeen, plus additional offices across the country, you will be part of a collaborative, forward-thinking team delivering some of Scotland's most significant infrastructure programmes. Long-term frameworks provide stability, continuity and exposure to varied and technically complex schemes.
As a Senior Bridges Engineer, you will provide support to the Design Team Leader while taking the technical lead on structures projects from conception through to completion. You will be entrusted with ownership, responsibility and the opportunity to shape delivery standards within your team.
You will be doing the following:
·Leading and motivating a team to produce technically sound engineering solutions.
·Taking projects from initial quotation through to design, delivery and handover.
·Preparing and checking designs, calculations, drawings and technical documentation to meet quality, cost and programme requirements.
·Overseeing and mentoring junior engineers and technicians, taking responsibility for delegated tasks.
·Acting as a Delegated Engineer and supporting the professional development of colleagues.
·Liaising with clients and suppliers, attending progress meetings and responding to technical queries.
·Managing a small, locally based technical team and ensuring effective workload delivery.
·Contributing to bid preparation and wider work-winning activities.
·Driving strong Health & Safety standards and ensuring CDM and risk management compliance.
To succeed as a Senior Bridges Engineer, you will bring:
·Demonstrable experience within the Structures or Bridges engineering field.
·The ability to produce and review technically robust designs in line with relevant standards and client requirements.
·Strong working knowledge of structural analysis software such as LUSAS and Autodesk Structural Bridge Design.
·Commercial awareness and experience supporting project financial performance.
·A solid understanding of CDM regulations and risk assessment processes.
·Experience managing hazards and implementing effective risk mitigation strategies.
·Understanding of multidisciplinary interface management.
·Incorporated or Chartered status with ICE or IStructE (desirable and potentially essential on some contracts).
·A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, or equivalent demonstrable learning.
In return, you will benefit from a competitive salary dependent on experience, alongside a comprehensive benefits package designed to support your professional and personal wellbeing.
You will receive:
·A generous pension contribution.
·Minimum 24 days annual leave plus Bank Holidays.
·Flexible benefits including the option to buy additional leave, cycle to work scheme, gym membership and charitable giving.
·Access to retail discounts and savings platforms.
·A health cash plan, 24-hour GP access, wellbeing support programmes and dental vouchers.
·Two paid community involvement days per year.
You will also benefit from structured career progression pathways, dedicated mentoring and support towards professional qualifications, including recognition bonuses for achieving chartered status. Hybrid, part-time and flexible working patterns are available, allowing you to achieve a healthy work-life balance.
My client is committed to creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and supported. Applications are welcomed from all suitably qualified candidates regardless of background or personal characteristics.
