Principal Transport Planner
My client is a leading consultancy renowned for its integrated approach to Transport Planning and Highways Design. With established offices in Gateshead, Tyne & Wear, and Fleet, Hampshire, the company is expanding to a new office in Birmingham, enhancing their ability to serve a wide array of public and private sector clients, including major commercial developers across the UK. They are now seeking a seasoned Principal Transport Planner to join the Birmingham team. In this key role, you will oversee and manage transport planning for a range of projects, ensuring high-quality statements and plans are delivered on time and within budget. Main Duties:
·Prepare Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, and Travel Plans, with coordination as required.
·Create and present technical data and drawings.
·Conduct junction capacity assessments using ARCADY, PICADY, and LINSIG.
·Liaise with clients, contractors, and local/national authorities.
·Ensure tasks are delivered on time and within budget.
·Review work quality and accuracy, particularly for junior team members.
·Collaborate within the team and support junior staff in developing technical knowledge.
·Support Team Leaders in advising clients on Highways & Transport matters, from feasibility work to preliminary guidance.
·Conduct site appraisals/visits, design surveys, and contribute to written reports and presentations.
·Maintain up-to-date project files and assist with related tasks as required by Team Leaders.
·Play an active role in establishing and growing the Birmingham Office.
Requirements:
Education & Experience:
·Degree in Transport Planning, Geography, Civil Engineering, or related field.
·4+ years of experience with UK Transport Planning standards and processes.
·Member of the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (MCIHT).
Technical Skills:
·Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office.
·Strong numeracy skills, with solid spreadsheet capabilities.
·Knowledge of AutoCAD (desirable).
·Proficiency with ARCADY, PICADY, and LINSIG.
Competencies:
·Strong analytical skills and ability to communicate findings effectively.
·Skilled in numerical work, with high attention to detail.
·Confident verbal and written communication.
·Commercial awareness and effective problem-solving abilities.

Position Details:
