Principal Transport Planner - Edinburgh
 
Do you want to work for one of the largest engineering consultancy Limited Liability Partnerships in the UK. My client have been providing high quality services to our clients for over 120 years and are looking to recruit a Principal Transport Planner for their Edinburgh office. Over time the business has evolved from a civil and structural design practice to a modern client-focused multidisciplinary consultancy which includes geo-environmental, traffic and transportation, rail and planning.
 
The successful candidate will have a fantastic opportunity to work in one of the UK's leading private Engineering Consultancies, working for a range of public and private sector clients.
The Traffic & Transportation team are involved in development projects across Scotland. As a key part of the team you will work with urban designers and other professionals in the preparation of Development Frameworks and Master Plans to support the allocation of sites through the Development Plan process, and the preparation of Transport Assessments and Travel Plans in support of planning applications. You will also provide inputs to the Environmental Impact Assessment process.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Principal Traffic & Transportation Engineer's role includes the following duties:-
 
·Managing the delivery of multiple private and public sector projects concurrently.
·Preparing fee proposals and work opportunity bids.
·Mentoring colleagues in the preparation of Transport Assessment, Transport Statement, Travel Plan and Transport Feasibility / Appraisal reports, and writing reports when required.
·Report and analysis checking to ensure high standards of output are attained.
·Traffic modelling using Junctions 9 (ARCADY / PICADY), LinSig and Paramics software may be an advantage, but is not essential.
·Providing compliant and innovative solutions to problems which improve the performance of roads, junctions and transport networks and are capable of being engineered.
·Liaison with clients, other professionals and statutory authorities.
·Attending project team meetings, site meetings and carrying out site visits.
·Liaise with and lead colleagues, clients and other professionals providing expert advice and guidance on traffic and transportation matters.
·Control of projects giving consideration to the agreed budgetary limits and timescales.
·Financial reporting to line manager and input to project invoicing.
·Seek opportunity to expand the transportation offering and current client base across Central Scotland in particular.

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE:
The ideal candidate will have the following attributes:
 
·Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or other relevant discipline.
·A Masters degree in Transport Planning would be advantageous.
·Full membership of an appropriate professional body.
·Be an Incorporated / Chartered Engineer or Transport Planning Professional.
·Substantial traffic engineering and transport planning experience gained within a consultancy environment working for private and public sector clients.
·Good knowledge of key reference documents such as the DMRB, SPP, PAN 75, Designing Streets, the National Roads Development Guide and relevant Acts of Parliament and associated Regulations.
·A good understanding of the development planning process in Scotland.
·A numerate person with high levels of communication and presentation skills.
·Good report writing skills in English.
·Good knowledge of Excel, Word and Publisher.
·A flexible and enthusiastic approach to working within a team structure.
·Confidence and ability to maximise the level of responsibility taken on projects, small and large.
