Job description

I am currently looking for a Principal Traffic Engineer to join a fast growing private sector consultancy in London.  You will join a vibrant team and will work on road safety related projects that make a difference to its residents.
 
This role would benefit from experience of working in Local Authority Traffic and Transportation.
 
Full or part time working will be considered for the right candidate.
 
 
The role
·Supporting the Framework Manager in delivering Traffic Management and Local Safety Scheme's proposals and feasibility designs.
·Managing the  Traffic enquiries inbox, responding to public, client side and internal enquiries and supporting the Framework Manager, the client and the team by insightful, considered responses.
·Building relationships with colleagues, the client and Council member (ward and parish councillors), with whom you will have regular contact.
·Preparation of scheme proposals and budgetary cost estimates for new schemes and providing support in handing over schemes to the delivery team.
·Project managing / directing projects in accordance with Client requirements.
·Attending meetings (sometimes outside of normal hours) at parish and council venues.
·Attending and providing progress updates to the Framework Manager and the client.
·Provide technical direction on enquiries or projects and high-level advice on complex technical issues
·Contribute to the management of the Road Safety team.
·Respond to Client and customer requests and enquiries and ensuring that their needs are met.
·Commissioning, co-ordinating and managing of surveys and studies relating to projects.
·Ensuring that access to all relevant information (databases, portals, software) is maintained and communicated to the client.
·To be flexible - carry out any duties as and when required for the good of the company.
·To manage all staff under his / her / their department / core area effectively and encourage and motivate performance.
·To be the Client's primary point of contact for projects managed within their business unit.
 
The ideal candidate
·Relevant Degree or equivalent.
·Alternative consideration given to significant relevant experience in lieu of specified education and professional qualification. This is particularly relevant to Local Authority highways and transport experience.
·Comprehensive understanding of traffic and transportation techniques, highway design and transport planning principles and a proven track record in project design and delivery.
·Be an excellent verbal and written communicator at all levels (from junior staff up to local level politicians).
·Preferably conversant with and/or intermediate user of CAD design software (but not essential).
·Good understanding of traffic and highway legislation.
·Comprehensive knowledge of relevant technical / industry / DfT and TfL standards.
·Fully computer literate and conversant with Microsoft Office Suite: Work, Excel, Project, etc.
