Job description

Due to ongoing year on year growth, our clients, a multi-disciplinary award winning consultancy are looking to add a Principal Structures/Bridges Engineer to the business.  As the Principal Structures Engineer you will be tasked with continuing to grow this sector, using your detailed knowledge of Bridge and Structural engineering to expand this department and also win new business within the UK.
 
The work ranges from feasibility to full scheme designs, detailed designs, assessments, inspections, construction support and assess management.
 
As a client facing role you will play a crucial part in understanding and maintaining knowledge on the client's business, systems etc, building clients relationships and consolidating both the business and your personal credibility in the industry.
 
 
The role
·Providing technical guidance and leadership to projects
·Development of conceptual design and producing engineering designs and details in accordance with project requirements
·Preparation of calculations, written reports and checking of drawings
·Checking of design calculations and drawings completed by other engineers
·Project Management
·Attending client meetings and building relationships with clients and other stakeholders
·Visits to site as required
·Providing input to project teams and leading by example
·Mentoring and developing less experienced team members to allow them to achieve their full potential
·Ensuring that clients are kept informed and projects are managed to their requirements
·Budget control, ensuring that all projects are kept within the set budget
·Staff Management including staff appraisals, recruitment and workload management 
 
The ideal candidate
·Experience working in a design team environment
·Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
·Chartered Engineer (or nearing Chartered status) in Civil and/or Structural Engineering
·Technically strong engineer with a background in steel and concrete bridge design, including an understanding of the underlying principles behind the design codes, and a proven record leading the delivery of detailed designs of steel and concrete bridges
·Adept at working within a team environment and have experience across a range of engineering structures
·Self-motivated with good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
·Possess strong analytical ability and a solid understanding of engineering fundamentals and current design standards
·Experienced Project management with a good understanding of commercial aspects of projects
·Able to communicate / liaise effectively and professionally with the design team, clients and contractors
