Job description

A very exciting Senior/Principal Geotechnical Engineer opportunity has arisen to work with my client based in their Tunnelling and Geotechnical team. The role will be based in the new Leeds office and candidates will be expected to want to help grow the teams northern presence.
 
My client has been supporting public, private and institutional clients for more than 50 years, developing transport, water, building, renewable energy and rural development projects from concept through to commissioning and operation.
There are currently 12 members (grown from 4 in 2021) in the Tunnelling and Geotechnics department, all permanent staff in London. Each member has a specialization either in tunnelling or geotechnics, but the type of work is interchangeable between the two categories. There is sufficient variety of projects to cater for everyone's needs and aspirations. There are two ICE Mentors within the department and even more in the business who can help team members towards their chartership.

Senior/Principal Engineering Geologist
·       Right to work in the UK
·       Chartered Geologist or similar equivalent qualification from a relevant professional body
·       A strong academic background with a relevant geology/ engineering geology degree (ideally MSc or equivalent)
·       Proven experience of acting at Senior/Principal level leading technical project tasks and teams. Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
·       Excellent technical experience - experience of engineering geological and geohazard investigations, civil engineering ground investigations and characterization.
·       Direct experience of working on major linear infrastructure (highways & rails) projects in UK (preferably hs2)
·       Familiarity with assessing geological hazards and risks
·       Experience and capability in ground modelling and data management/manipulation for major schemes, and in GIS based ground modelling software packages (e.g., OpenGround, Leapfrog, QGIS
·       Hydrological and/or Geotechnical design experience preferable although not essential
·       Excellent report writing skills
·       Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
·       Choice of office location is flexible between London and Leeds. Willingness to travel on occasions is preferrable
