Job description
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to join our growing Nuclear team. The team supports a range of critical nuclear programmes, including the UK Submarine programme, the existing nuclear generation fleet, decommissioning projects, and the design of high-integrity structures for new nuclear facilities. This role offers the opportunity to work on high-profile nuclear projects within a collaborative, multidisciplinary engineering environment, taking ownership of technical deliverables from concept through to completion.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide mechanical engineering support across a range of nuclear projects, including design, analysis, and substantiation activities.
- Take responsibility for technical packages from inception through to delivery, ensuring compliance with project requirements.
- Produce and review key technical documentation, including calculations, design reports, and technical requirements.
- Apply relevant design codes, standards, and best practices appropriate for safety-critical industries.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including other engineering disciplines, project managers, and stakeholders.
- Ensure all work is delivered to the required time, cost, and quality standards.
- Support risk management, design reviews, and technical governance processes where required.
Essential Requirements
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- Demonstrable experience working within the nuclear sector (design, substantiation, and/or analysis).
- Proven track record of delivering technical projects and services on time, to quality, and within budget.
- Familiarity with working to design codes and industry standards applicable to safety-critical environments.
- Experience producing key technical documentation, including calculations, design reports, and technical requirements.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly to a range of audiences.
Desirable Experience
- Experience with PWR (Pressurised Water Reactor) technology, including design, analysis, or substantiation.
- Previous involvement in UK nuclear programmes (e.g. submarines, new build, decommissioning, or operational fleet).
- Experience working within a regulated engineering environment with formal quality and governance processes.
