Job description
Are you looking to make a meaningful impact in your community? We are looking for a dedicated and customer-focused Housing Options Advisor to join a local authority based in the West Midlands. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the frontline of housing advice and homelessness prevention in a vibrant and diverse community.
About the Role:
As a Housing Options Advisor, you will be the first point of contact for residents facing housing challenges. You will provide clear, compassionate, and solution-focused advice on homelessness, rehousing options, and allocations through our Choice Based Lettings Scheme (Home Choice).
Your responsibilities will include:
·Delivering advice and support via telephone, email, and in writing to resolve enquiries at the first point of contact where possible.
·Assessing housing applications and homelessness eligibility, collecting and verifying documentation including income and housing history.
·Maintaining accurate customer records and case notes on our housing system.
·Registering and banding applications, managing property bids, and allocating garages in line with council policy.
·Working collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to ensure residents receive appropriate support and referrals.
·Supporting team duties as part of the weekly rota and occasionally working outside standard hours when required.
What We're Looking For:
We're looking for a positive, flexible, and customer-focused individual with excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills. You will:
·Have excellent written and verbal communication abilities, including the confidence to make and explain difficult decisions.
·Demonstrate patience, empathy, and a non-judgemental approach when supporting residents in crisis.
·Show commitment to equality, diversity, and anti-discriminatory practices, embedding these values in daily work.
·Possess strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage your own workload and meet targets.
·Have strong IT skills, knowledge of administrative processes, and a "can-do" attitude.
·Be a strong team player who can adapt to change and contribute to a service that puts customers first.
Desirable:
·A full, valid driving licence and access to a vehicle.
